Scavenger| Cybcon Exclusive | 2001 |
You’re looking at the very first Cybcon exclusive Transformers toy. A local fan, Greg Gaub, would host a small gathering of other locals the Saturday of Botcon weekend for those who couldn’t go. There was food, fun, and a collaborative toy run to nearby stores. The first year I went was 2001 and I wanted an exclusive toy to commemorate the event. I got together (via email) with my friend Zobovor and Scavenger was borne.
Beast Machines was in full swing and turning Vehicon Scavenger into Constructicon Scavenger seemed fitting. To be honest, I’m surprised Hasbro never did their own version. I bought 10 Scavengers, shipped them to Zobovor to do his magic and this is the final result. We also collaborated on a bio card/tech spec where he provided new art and I wrote a new bio and used Photoshop to put it all together. They sold for an outrageous $10 a piece to the others attendees, five in total I believe, with the rest sold via Greg’s Yahoo! Cybcon group.
Of all the Cybcon exclusives I helped put together, Scavenger here remains my favorite. He also represents a simpler time in the fandom when it wasn’t as large as it is today and one could afford to “collect them all.”
