Transformers Prime: Sergeant Kup
So this is Hasbro’s repaint of what was originally supposed to be Ironhide. But still with Ironhide-like guns. I’m still not really sure what to think, though I’m leaning more towards the negative side. For one thing, his whole chest is a facade. And they really copped out on his truck bed. They didn’t even try to hide the fact that those are legs. It pretty much ruins the entire vehicle mode for me, even with the cannons stored in there. The front of the cab is alright though, I guess. Except that the first time I transformed him I thought for sure I was going to break the hood trying to seperate it.
His robot mode fares slightly better. I don’t really appreciate that he has absolutely no wrists (His entire lower arm in one molded piece.) but at least his cannon’s are molded such that they fit around his kibble to give him a better grip on them. Speaking of his cannons, I complained that they are too Ironhide-y, but they do have the ability to combine end to end into one larger cannon, which helps.
The thing that bugs me the most, though, is his gigantic shoulder pads. They seriously prevent him from looking more than about 30 degrees in either direction. And they make his head look minuscule. It was a pretty bad design decision all around.
For all my gripes, he does have some merits. Like I said, the front of his truck mode looks pretty cool. For the most part I do like his transformation, and he’s pretty poseable. Overall I’d say if you like Kup, get him. Otherwise, wait for AM Ironhide. I think he’ll be a better use of this mold.
